With over 35 years of experience as a Board Certified Ophthalmologist, Richard Levinson, M.D., is a professional who can be wholly trusted with the care of your precious vision. Since 1996, Dr. Levinson has helped thousands of people to decrease or eliminate their dependence on daily use of corrective lenses. As one of the first clinics FDA-approved for laser eye surgery in Denver, Dr. Levinson’s practice has a trusted reputation among patients.
Approved by the FDA for public use in 1995, both LASIK and PRK are offered at our clinic, and both give excellent results using Excimer Laser technology. With LASIK, a thin flap of corneal tissue is lifted up to reveal the underlying corneal bed and allow for the laser correction to be placed. The flap is then replaced and can heal naturally. With PRK the correction is placed directly on the surface of the cornea. PRK is generally recommended for younger, more active patients, for patients with thinner corneas, allergies, or higher myopic prescriptions.
Over 95 percent of people wearing glasses or contacts are potential candidates for LASIK or PRK. As per FDA guidelines, you must be at least 18 years of age and your contact or glasses prescription must remain stable for at least a year, with less than .5 diopters of change. You cannot be pregnant or nursing, have collagen vascular disease, be taking Accutane or Cordarone, and your corneas must be of the proper thickness. All conditions being satisfied, we can treat up to -14 diopters of nearsightedness, +6 diopters of farsightedness, and 6 diopters of astigmatism. Preliminary testing includes measurement of the corneal thickness, and a corneal topography to determine if your corneas have enough tissue for a complication free operation. Of course, all testing is complimentary.
Successfully in practice since 1979, Dr. Levinson’s clinic has performed thousands of laser eye surgeries in Denver. With an uncompromising commitment to compassion, understanding, and complete patient care, our clinic provides state-of-the-art technical expertise and comprehensive care. Our ongoing commitment is to create an environment of comfort and caring for patients.
